Hi friend!

It's hard to believe tomorrow is October 31st! Not only are we in the spooky spirit of Halloween, but I'm also in the exhilarating countdown to my first (and hopefully not my last) marathon! 🎃🕷️👟

It's Been A Bumpy Road...
Last year was a tough one. In 2023, I was all set to enjoy my victory lap at my first marathon when BAM—plantar fasciitis slapped me down just 4-5 weeks before race day. Talk about a plot twist! Adulting took over, and I decided to let my foot heal instead of risking further injury. But hey, that dream never really left; it just hibernated for a while.

This time around, my 40th birthday is just around the corner, and I'm determined to cross that 26.2 finish line before my big 4-0. I've been training since this summer, and the excitement is real. That old plantar fasciitis? Still in check, thanks to diligent stretching and smart training. (Stretching isn't just for 5th grade gym class!) 🤪 [Tune into the full episode HERE!]

Why Running? Why Now?
In case you're new here, let's do a quick refresher: I never had an athletic bone in my body growing up. My comfort zone involved marching band, choir, musical theater, and the speech team. But, hitting my 30s and eventually settling into mom life, I wanted to be active.

It all started with a Facebook post from an old high school friend who had transformed through running. Inspired by his journey, I ordered my first pair of running shoes and, on a whim, decided to lace up and hit the ground running—literally. And guess what? I was hooked! The combination of mental clarity and physical exhilaration was unbeatable.

So how has running been a game-changer in my life as a mom? Let's break it down:

  1. Physical Benefits: Running is an intense cardio workout that improves endurance, builds muscle, and keeps my weight in check. It's a major health boost!
  2. Mental Benefits: Running gives me a mental reset. Anxiety? Stress? Running helps alleviate those symptoms and even boosts cognitive function. Those endorphins are life-savers!
  3. Energy Boost: Need to keep up with a high-energy six-year-old? Running has improved my cardiovascular fitness and energy levels, making it easier to tackle the busy mom schedule.
  4. Better Sleep: Ah, the elusive quality sleep. Running tires me out in the best way, helping to regulate sleep patterns and ensuring restful nights.
  5. Role Modeling: I’m setting a healthy example for my daughter by incorporating running into my routine. Kids are sponges—seeing us prioritize our health encourages them to do the same.
  6. Me Time: Running provides that precious alone time all moms crave. With my phone on do not disturb and my favorite playlists pumping through my earbuds, I escape into a world where my only goal is to keep moving.
  7. Confidence Boost: Achieving running goals and completing races pumps up my self-esteem. That confidence spills over into my day-to-day mom duties, making me feel like I can conquer anything.

The Road Ahead
I'm thrilled to be in the final countdown to the marathon this weekend. Running has truly helped me be a more present, engaged mom and a stronger me. Whether it’s a 5k, a 10k, or now the full 26.2 miles, each step feels like a victory. If you’re on your own fitness journey, I’d love to hear about it. Are you a fellow mother runner? Let’s connect! Before I sign off, remember, mamas—taking care of ourselves is part of taking care of our families. So whether you’re running, gardening, cycling, or dancing around the kitchen, keep moving and keep loving yourself through every step.

Until next time, stay strong, stay inspired, and remember—you’ve got this, Mama! 💪✨
