A Journey Through Chaos to Calm

First off, can you believe we’re already at episode 68? 🎉

With May being Mental Health Month, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to rewind back to episode 13, where I served up six golden self-care tips for us busy mamas. Spoiler alert—these tips have been game-changing for me!

Before we dive in, I gotta come clean about something. Over the last couple of years, I’ve tangoed with stress, anxiety, and even vertigo amidst juggling parenting, a demanding job in the music industry, and a rollercoaster of life events—including a divorce, dating as a single mom, finding love again, and marriage. Yikes, right?

My Aha Moment

Picture this: I’m driving to work one morning when, out of nowhere, my vision goes topsy-turvy. Vertigo hit me like a ton of bricks, and it kept coming back, accompanied by worrisome headaches. Long story short, after several months of doctor visits, I was diagnosed with both generalized anxiety disorder and vestibular migraines. But here's the kicker—I got things under control thanks to finally making self-care a priority. 🌸

And mamas, if I can do it, so can you! So let's rewind to those timeless tips from episode 13.

Tip #1: Make Time for Yourself

Easier said than done, right? Wrong! This is non-negotiable. Find your sanctuary—a hot bath, a favorite Netflix show, or a walk in nature. Schedule it in like you would a doctor's appointment, because, girl, your sanity depends on it. Pro tip: Set the scene with a bath bomb and your favorite beverage. 🛁

Tip #2: Stay Connected

Feeling like you’re on "Mom Island"? Been there! Reach out to other moms—whether it’s a local church group, a community Facebook group, or simply connecting with moms from your kid's daycare. Stay connected to remind each other that you’re not in this alone.

Tip #3: Practice Mindfulness

Put down the phone, take a deep breath, and be in the moment. It’s so easy to get caught up in multitasking that we forget to enjoy the here and now. Doing a quick body scan or just focusing on your breathing can make all the difference.

Tip #4: Get Enough Sleep

I know, I know—what even is sleep, right? 😴 But it’s crucial. Aim for 7-8 hours and talk to a specialist if you’re struggling. Trust me, a well-rested mama is a happy mama.

Tip #5: Ask for Help

We can’t do it all, and that’s okay. Whether it’s delegating tasks to your partner or benefiting from a meal train after baby’s arrival, accepting help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Tip #6: Practice Self-Compassion

Be kind to yourself. Negative self-talk? Ain’t nobody got time for that! Treat yourself like you would your best friend—compliment yourself, acknowledge your strengths, and practice positive affirmations.

The Takeaway

At the end of the day, taking care of yourself isn’t just about making you feel good. It’s about ensuring you can be the best version of yourself for you and your loved ones. As I often say on my podcast, you can’t pour from an empty cup. So take these tips to heart and start filling up that cup, mamas! [Tune-in to this episode HERE!]
