Welcome back to another exciting episode of Secret Mom Hacks! Today we're rewinding to one of our past episodes—Episode 46 with Lo Nigrosh. If you’re a breastfeeding mom or soon-to-be one, grab your notebooks because you’ll want to jot down some key takeaways!

Snowstorms, Wildfires, and New Year Reflections

First off, can you believe it’s already January 2025? We’re freezing our toes off here in Middle Tennessee, thanks to a recent snowstorm. On a heavier note, our hearts are going out to everyone affected by the wildfires in California. It’s absolutely heartbreaking to see the devastation. We're praying for friends, family, and all affected.

Here are some of the organizations I've learned about that are helping:

LA County Relief – COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES
Wildfire Recovery Fund - California Community Foundation

Meet Lo Nigrosh

Let's go back in time to episode 46 for a chat with Lo Nigrosh, the host of the "Milk Making Minutes" podcast and an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant). This episode was such a goldmine of information and I just had to share it with you all again!

The Power of a Breastfeeding Support Network

Lo kicked off our convo by emphasizing the importance of a robust breastfeeding support network. She laid out some fantastic resources like La Leche League International and Breastfeeding USA. If you’re feeling like you're on an island, these groups have got you!

And here’s a pro-tip from Lo: Locate these support groups during your pregnancy. Local virtual groups can be a life-saver, letting you build relationships with moms who live nearby.

Making Real-Life Connections

Ever felt like you’re drowning in online advice from 50,000 strangers? Lo advises steering clear of those giant Facebook groups. Instead, focus on smaller, local groups where the advice is evidence-based, and the connections are genuine.

Real Talk: Online vs. In-Person Support

One of the heartwarming stories Lo shared was about a mom who switched to formula but continued to attend a La Leche League meeting. These groups provide not just practical help but emotional support, giving you a safe space to mourn any breastfeeding difficulties and celebrate the wins.

Eat, Drink, and Be... Nutritious?

Ever wondered what you should be eating while breastfeeding? According to Lo, it varies wildly depending on where you are in the world. Focus on eating nutrient-dense foods and listen to your body. Oh, and drink up! Hydration is key.

Lo also reminded us that milk supply isn’t as connected to what you eat or drink as we might think. It’s all about how often you feed your baby. Mind. Blown. 💥

Life Balance – Or Lack Thereof

Lo keeps it real, admitting that, like most of us, she doesn’t have it all together. She talks about prioritizing and sometimes sacrificing things like a clean house to keep the juggling act manageable. It’s refreshing to hear someone as accomplished as Lo admit this!

The Secret Sauce: Unicorn Space

And here’s the nugget of wisdom that can change your life: Find your unicorn space. This is a term coined by Eve Rodsky, referring to a space that’s all yours—where you can be social, creative, and most importantly, joyful. Lo’s unicorn space? Starting the Milk Making Minutes podcast. What will yours be?

Final Thoughts

As we wrap up this episode rewind, remember that none of us have it all figured out. Finding your community, whether online or in-person, taking care of yourself, and finding your joy can make this wild ride called motherhood a bit easier.
